About the series
From first sounds to their own ideas, children build their Arabic step by step.
Qalam is a nine-book series from Akdem Publishing for children and teens learning Arabic as a foreign or second language. It brings language, play and everyday life into the classroom.
Explore the nine books
For children and teens learning Arabic in schools, language centres and weekend programmes. Topics start with familiar people and places: family, friends, home and school.
Learners listen, play, move and talk. Words and structures return in new contexts, with varied activities for different learning needs. As learners progress, they describe, tell stories, share opinions and create projects.
The learning pathway
Each stage builds on the last: sounds and letters, conversation, connected texts, then projects and presentations.
Books 1–2 introduce sounds, letters, words and short exchanges.

Books 3–4 develop simple questions and sentences, with guided reading and writing.

Books 5–6 explore school, routines, jobs and nature through everyday talk.

Books 7–8 develop storytelling and opinions through social life, culture and history.

Book 9 explores technology, ambition and creativity through projects and presentations.

Listening, speaking, reading and writing work together, supported by sounds, vocabulary and language structures.

The book-led classroom
The printed book sets the sequence. Audio supports listening and repetition. Videos bring stories and songs to the smartboard. The interactive book combines pages, media and activities, with the teacher guiding the lesson.
Games, movement, pair work and projects let children use what they learn. Familiar language returns in new situations, so each lesson builds on the last.
